My favorite marina
- Last summer's favourite marina is in Greece, Syros island, in the bay called Phoinikas (southeast of the island). It is well protected, especially from the prevailing north wind, it has shower amenities (not to common for Greek standards) in addition to water / electricity / wifi facilities. The greater advantage is the friendly personnel, always willing to assist. There are good restaurants in the village as well as a shop with nautical equipment. There is regular transportation around the island (taxis, buses) and you can easily travel around. Still, as Syros is sited in the center of Cyclades island, sailboats can use Phoinikas as the center of trips to other islands (e.g. Mykonos, Paros, Kythnos etc.)

MARINA AGANA, Dalmatia
- My favorite is marina Agana in mid Dalmatia, Croatia... It is placed in a tiny village, quite peacefull and naturally well protected from all winds... staff is amazing, unlike any I've met before, shower facilities exceptionally clean... nearby taverns offer good food for reasonable price... i love this place...

Block Island
- Love it because it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The atmosphere on the island is so relaxed - everyone always looks wind-blown! So much to do in the great outdoors - hike, bike or lie on the beach. After a wonderful day, the kids can play in the arcade or jig for squid while the adults enjoy a mudslide or two. Simply heavenly!

Oxford, Maryland
- No question this tiny town has charm, a friendly marina, and a good restaurant. It is just right for those who do not appreciate a hike up a mountain. The trees give shade over a great little township and the beach is great and the port protected.

Marion, Mass.
- The best ice cream on the east coast. A wonderful little place which you can walk around.

Pulpit Harbor, midcoast Maine
- My favorite is Pulpit Harbor, Maine, on the northern side of North Haven Island. It's large enough not to feel crowded but still very protected. And quiet - nothing on shore (except nature) - so no one's dashing about in small boats or dinghies. It's beautiful, calm, and you're likely to see eagles and ospreys. Last time I anchored there in mid summer, three young girls rowed around in a dory at sunset selling brownies boat to boat - charming and pleasant. Few powerboats here, no one runs a generator at night, and there's an unspoken comraderie among the sailors who know this special place.
