Discover Boating, a public awareness campaign on behalf of the recreational boating industry has surveyed boating activity hot spots. After polling suggestions from hundreds of boaters, industry experts and travel enthusiasts, Discover Boating identified a list of top locales from coast-to-coast to "enjoy boating activities and truly experience why life is better on a boat."
The list includes cruising and sailing destinations. Not surprisingly, favorites include the Chesapeake Bay and California's Mission Bay near San Diego. Surprisingly, the San Francisco Bay -- home waters to thousands of sailors -- barely makes the list.
