US Sailing Instructor Certification
The US Sailing organization has a number of course who for those seeking certification for teaching sailing at different levels. Keelboat courses include coastal and offshore passage making and celestial navigation courses. Founded in 1897, US Sailing is the national governing body for the sport of sailing.

US Coast Guard Licence to Teach Sailing
In many circumstances you need a Coast Guard license to teach sailing. If you receive compensation or consideration for teaching in a boat equipped with auxiliary power and operating on waters under USCG jurisdiction, then you need at least the Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUVP) license, which allows taking up to six students or passengers on the boat.
