Auckland has one of the highest rates of per capita boat ownership of any city in the world and on any fine weekend you will see Auckland harbor filled with boats of all shapes and sizes. Elsewhere, you will find boats virtually everywhere along the eastern coast of both islands.
New Zealand also has a notable history of producing great sailors and sailing teams. The America's Cup and many other famous international yachting trophies have been won by kiwi yachtsmen.
In addition to sail boats, motor yachts are very popular. Many charter companies offer boats in both categories.
