Sailing skills involve learning all sorts of things about sailboats, sailing techniques and gear, and seamanship. Even the most experienced sailors acknowledge this is a lifelong process - you can never have too much knowledge or skill, and there's always something new to learn regardless of how long you've sailed.
We learn in many ways: from the teaching of others, from doing things right – and sometimes from making mistakes or just doing something dumb. Hey, we're all just human, right?
Best of all, when it comes to reading about sailing online, we can learn from the mistakes made by other sailors, especially when they're also humorous!
So share your own funny story here and help others learn a thing or two while they enjoy your story. To get us started, I'll tell the story here of one of the dumbest - and most embarrassing - things I've done on a sailboat. (Hint: I wasn't laughing at the time, but I lived through it - luckily.)
So what's the dumbest thing you've done on a boat?
