Thornton ReeseThornton has been hooked on sailing since first messing about in car-top sailboats on the Chesapeake Bay as a youngster. His passion for the sport led him to keelboat sailing in Southern California, crewing aboard race boats in local and offshore races, teaching sailing for a charter company as well as local and long-distance sailboat deliveries. While not on the water, Thornton has supported his ocean addiction by writing for a variety of publications. Experience:Sailing Instructor. Taught sailing for a Southern California sailboat charter company with fleets in Long Beach and Marina Del Rey. Lessons included all levels, from beginner through check-outs for highly experienced sailors. Particular focus was preparing sailors for sailing to Catalina Island, spending a weekend aboard and getting home with a smile. Sailboat Racing. Raced extensively in local and offshore races. Crewed aboard all levels of boats, from Wednesday nights on 25-foot battle-wagons to one design racing on cutting-edge racers in high profile regattas (Big Boat Series, Key West Race Week, St. Thomas Rolex Regatta and more). Yacht Deliveries. Delivered high-end sailboats up and down the West Coast, as well as through the Caribbean. As skipper, selected crew and scheduled watches, picked weather windows and routes, provisioned boat, arranged for slips and more. As crew, stood watch, drove the boat, enjoyed the ride. From Thornton Reese:Life offers many joys. Spending time aboard a sailboat, any sailboat, close to shore or far away ranks right up there with the best of them. Reading about sailboats and sailing is pretty high up there too, as is looking at great sailing photos. Writing about sailing is none too shabby, either. Find out more About Us: Our Story |
